Review

With a capacity of 48 passengers, La Pinta is one of the larger luxury-class options in the Galapagos, but also has an excellent range of activities and amenities. Originally a Caribbean casino boat, La Pinta was completely refitted back in 2009 as a specialist Galapagos yacht; and was refurbished again at the end of 2019. The result is a very well designed vessel that caters superbly for the higher capacity. Communal spaces such as the fitness room, entertainment room, library, gift shop and computer room – along with the standard areas such as the lounge & bar – means there is plenty of options to seek refuge. There is also peace of mind in the addition of an infirmary, that is staffed by a medical officer (consultations are free of charge). Furthermore, La Pinta has impressive eco-credentials, with onboard water treatment & desalination systems and new fuel-efficient engines.

Deck layout

La Pinta has 3 decks. The Main Deck is the level passengers embark/disembark the yacht and features the main reception area, along with the restaurant, gift shop and infirmary. The Upper (Cabin) Deck is dedicated purely to the accommodation, with all 24 cabins located here. The Sundeck is where most of the socialising and relaxing takes place. Towards the bow is the spacious, covered, observation lounge & bar; with the fitness room and library located just behind. At the stern is the outside Sky Bar, with the Jacuzzi and sun-loungers. Open decks are to port and starboard.

Itineraries

La Pinta offers two 4-night and one 6-night itineraries. All three itineraries start and finish at Baltra, with airport transfers to/from the yacht included. The 4-night eastern route includes Isla Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, San Cristobal and Espanola. The 4-night northern route takes in Santa Cruz, Genovesa and Santiago. Finally, the 6-night western route encompasses Santa Cruz, Santiago, Isabela, Fernandina, Rabida and Floreana.

Cabins

All 24 cabins are located on the same deck. There are 20 ‘Luxury’ (standard) cabins, with 4 pairs of interconnecting cabins. The Luxury cabins are 16.4m2/177ft2. At the stern of the cabin deck are 4 ‘Luxury Plus’ cabins, offering a very roomy 23m2/247ft2. All cabins are en-suite with air-conditioning and a large window, with a desk and table & chairs. The Luxury Plus cabins also feature a sofa.

Features & inclusions

As detailed above, there are plenty of amenities onboard La Pinta. We are fans of the panoramic windows in the gym – the view is a welcome distraction from the pain of the treadmill! Included in the cruise cost is all shore and water excursions, snorkel gear (masks, wetsuits and fins) and access to the kayaks, paddleboards and glass-bottom boat. All meals with soft drinks are included (buffet style) plus natural history lectures and Wi-Fi (in certain areas).

Wide range of amenities…and free Wi-Fi!

With 48 passengers, you lose the intimacy that most luxury cruises offer.
