Location
Whilst most accommodation on Isabela is in the main town of Puerto Villamil, Scalesia Galapagos Lodge requires a 25-minute drive up into the islands’ highlands (or 20 minutes direct from the airport). Be aware that there is little else in the area, so we recommend staying on the all-inclusive basis that includes your meals as well as island activities.
Layout
Your vehicle will arrive, via a dirt track of the main road, at the main building – a cavernous two storey, minimalistic structure. On the ground floor is reception and the main dining area, with high ceilings and superb views towards to ocean through the full-height windows. On the first floor is the bar and a social area.
A Jacuzzi is under construction and due to be complete in the latter half of 2020-21 season. Paths have been cut into the vegetation to lead to each of the 16 tents, all of which are spaced out downhill from the main building.
Rooms
Scalesia Galapagos Lodge has 16 tents, 12 of which have twin beds and four feature a king bed. Each tent is on a raised platform, elevating it away from the forest floor. The total footprint is 53m2 (570ft2), of which just under half is the wrap-around decking. The spacious tents are well equipped with ample closet space, a desk and fan and chairs on the decking. The huge bathrooms feature a free-standing, glass-panelled shower.
Features
Whilst there is not a huge amount to “do” on the property, other than enjoy the views and peaceful grounds within the highlands setting, Scalesia Lodge’s all-inclusive program does include a wide range of activities. The aim of the property is to spend the day out and about, exploring Isabela on their included activities; before returning to the Lodge to relax and enjoy the homecooked meals. The activities include snorkelling, trekking, mountain-biking, kayaking, bird-watching and surfing. The program also includes transfers to and from Puerto Villamil.
