An overview of where to go and what's on offer in Argentina...

Argentina - Buenos Aires
Argentina - Buenos Aires

From a geographical point of view, Argentina, as the 8th largest country on the planet, is also one of the least densely populated. Around 30% of the population of 40 million lives in the capital, Buenos Aires. On top of this, the next 4 major cities then account for the next 5 million or so. This leaves around 14 million spread out through the remaining towns and cities of Argentina.

With inhospitable places such as the Tierra del Fuego and the arid Patagonian steppe to contend with, it is no wonder that there still remain many areas of the country that are still to be anything more than pristine wilderness.

This lack of people and diversity of habit, from rainforest to frozen fjord lands and high Andean plateaus to ravaged Atlantic coastlines, make this a unique destination to visit. From the cultural melting pot that is Buenos Aires, to the spectacular sights of El Calafate and Iguazu falls, Argentina is a destination that holds pretty much anyone’s attention.

With such a wide spread of interests and cultures it can be a bit of a process in the first place to decide what can and can’t be done. In the information we have put together in this section, we hope that you will get some sort of idea for what it is that you are after.

    Top destinations in Argentina:

El Calafate and El Chalten - Monte Fitz Roy

    El Calafate and El Chalten

Possibly the most famous area of Argentina, El Calafate, and the neighbouring El Chalten, sit right on the edge of the Southern Ice Field, the second largest body of ice on the planet. Recently the area has seen a huge surge in interest (... More...

Our recommended top hotels and lodges for Argentina:

    1. Eolo Hotel - Environs

      Eolo Hotel

The Eolo Hotel, Patagonia, is one of the select group of hotels in Argentina that have been awarded membership of the Relais and Chateau group, it is easy to see why. Set outside of El Calafate, Eolo is perched on the side of a sweeping, Patagonian landscape that, due to the clever design of the... More...

    2. Awasi Iguazu - Main Area

      Awasi Iguazu

Awasi Iguazu is a new, luxury option, in and around the Iguazu Falls on the Argentine side of the border. Owned and operated by the Awasi chain (who operate a couple of the best properties in Chile, the Awasi Atacama and the Awasi Patagonia) this is a very classy new option and has shaken up the... 3. Belmond Hotel das Cataratas - Falls view

      Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Owned and managed by the superb Belmond chain, Hotel das Cataratas is the only alternative to the Melia Hotel that has views to the falls themselves. Being on the Brazilian side means that, arguably, the views themselves are even better than from the Argentine side and so, it is logical, that the... More...

    4. Las Balsas Gourmet Hotel & Spa

Las Balsas Gourmet Hotel & Spa

Las Balsas Gourmet Hotel & Spa, a member of the elite Relais & Chateau Hotels, really is a treat! While it looks very much like it should have been a family home, it was, in fact designed always as a hotel. I guess this fact gives an idea as to what to expect…a home from home. Set... More...

    5. Entre Cielos - Location

      Entre Cielos

Entre Cielos aims high…and delivers. For us it is a fantastic property with vast grounds and views of the cordillera mountain range resembling somewhat a contemporary art centre with a 1960’s chic aesthetic. The industrial concrete walls, strong colour palette and statement furniture may not your... More...
