Where to go

Colombia

Colombia is a country of huge diversity and is arguably one of South America's most diverse destinations

One of South America's most fascinating countries, Colombia is somewhere that many still look at as too dangerous or too difficult to move around in. The Colombia of today is nothing like it was even 3 years ago and with the increased presence of the military throughout the country, the tourism industry has increased at a fast pace of late. Being blessed with a huge diversity of attributes, both geographically and culturally, means that a trip to Colombia can include white sand beaches, high Andean scenery, ancient cultural histories and Amazonian nature to name but a few highlights. As they now say, "The only risk is wanting to stay!".

One of the reasons, in our opinion, that Colombia is unique in South America is that, as country more than twice the size of France or California, is that it is the only country on the continent that bridges the Caribbean coast and the Pacific. This meeting of laid back Caribbean rhythms and South American cultures makes for an alluring blend.

Below we have outlined a few of the places that we would recommend taking a look at in this wonderful country, where the Pacific and Atlantic meet, and the Andes range runs down to the sea. It really is a fantastic country and somewhere that we would definitely send anyone who is interested in culture, food and something a little out of the ordinary.

It is worth noting that, while there are some exceptional hotels in both Bogata and Cartagena, this is still a developing tourism industry and, as such, some of the accommodation can be “authentic” rather than internationally high end!
