Review

Hidden in the peaceful setting of Santa Cruz’s lower highlands, yet only 10 minutes from Puerto Ayora, Casa Natura is a great ‘middle ground’ between town and rural location. The property proudly seeks to offer a sanctuary where you can unwind with nature, rather than opulent indulgence. It was built using local materials from the island, beautifully exhibited by the striking Matasano-wood staircase in the middle of the lobby! The Galapagos is not a cheap destination to visit, so Casa Natura is a very good value option to use as a base whilst exploring the islands - especially suitable for families with an eye on budget.

Location

As mentioned, Santa Cruz’s main town of Puerto Ayora is only a 10-15 minute drive. The road up to the Itabaca channel – to cross to Baltra airport – is around half an hour. The property itself is surrounded by the highland forest, but with easy access to the main road running between the airport and Puerto Ayora. Playa el Garrapatero is less than 20 minutes by road.

Layout

The property is one main building, containing the reception, dining & social area and open-kitchen; along with all accommodation. Outside is the pool, which features a slide built into natural rock, along with a bar that has both covered and open terrace areas with seating & hammocks. Behind the main building is the organic garden and walking trail.

Rooms

Casa Natura Galapagos Lodge has a total of 13 rooms plus a superior suite, all of which are en-suite, are air-conditioned and have a private patio/balcony. The rooms are available as King, Twin, Triple or Quadruple. The superior suite is located on the ground floor and has dual-aspect windows and balcony.

Features

Casa Natura provide a fixed-schedule shuttle service to/from Puerto Ayora twice a day, so it is easy to pop into town or get to the pier for excursions. On site, the outdoor pool and bar are a good place to relax; or take a wander around their gardens. The restaurant offers meals that focus on local produce and BBQs are regularly held out on the terrace. There are a number of programs available for guests, from Bed & Breakfast through to all-inclusive options that include excursions. Free parking is available.

Good value and convenient location.

Accommodation is a quite basic.
