Hotel Edelweiss

There is a certain feeling with many of the town hotels in Bariloche, that they cater more to the winter market rather than the summer market. This is evident in the Hotel Edelweiss. Arguably the best of the town hotels, the rooms are comfortable and well appointed on the whole. Similarly, they cater to the après ski market with saunas and Jacuzzis.

Kenton Palace Hotel

Similar to the Edelweiss, the Kenton Palace Hotel is a good, if functional town hotel. Again, we would suggest that it aims more at a winter market than a summer one with the rooms being comfortable and clean rather than making use of the views or the location.

Nuss Hotel

Located in the heart of the Palermo Viejo district, the Nuss Hotel is another great option for those that are wanting to get a feel for what the nightlife and ambience of this superb area is like.

Salta and the Northwest

Salta and the Northwest

As one of the least visited areas of Argentina, the northwest, up against the dry Andes Range, is one of the true favourites for those that keep coming back to Argentina over the years. Below we have run through a few of the main areas to take a look at. Roughly speaking, most who come to this area will base themselves in the endearing city of Salta and then look to loop to the south or loop to the north, taking in the towns of Cafayate, Tilcara, Jujuy and Purmamarca.

The Iguazu Falls

The Iguazu Falls

Located right at the very northern most point of Argentina, surrounded on all sides by other countries, lies the province of Misiones and the infamous falls of Iguazu. A firm favourite on the tourist trail to Argentina (and rightly so) the Iguazu Falls is one of nature’s greatest wonders and highly recommended. At a site like this, as with many elsewhere, with great fame has come great numbers, and the once small town of Puerto Iguazu has steadily expanded along with the demand….this does not, however, detract from the experience in our view.

Esteros del Ibera

Esteros del Ibera

As the world’s second largest body of fresh water (second only to the Pantanal in Brazil), the Esteros Del Ibera are a hugely important feature not only for Argentina but also for the world in general. Located approximately 700 kms to the north of Buenos Aires, the Esteros comprises approximately a quarter of the Corrientes Province and was appointed in 2002 as Argentina’s 10th RAMSAR site.

Cordoba and the Sierras Chicas

Cordoba and the Sierras Chicas

Cordoba and the Sierras Chicas to the north, are one of the oldest and most venerable in all of Argentina and so well worth a mention and a visit on any itinerary. Without going into the details of the city itself (which is linked below), the main draw to this area for most visitors to Argentina is for the rounded and ancient hills that sit to the north of the city, the Sierras Chicas.

Mendoza and the Wine Region

Mendoza and the Wine Region

"Mendoza" and "wine", "wine" and "Mendoza". To an Argentine the words are almost interchangeable. As the capital of Argentinean red wine production, this is the place to head to if you are even mildly interested in viticulture and food…or even if you just like imbibing them!

Tierra del Fuego

Tierra del Fuego

Set at the end of the Earth, the Tierra del Fuego, or “Land of Fire”, has always captured the imaginations of those that have visited. Set right on the Beagle Channel, Ushuaia, one of the two important towns in the province, is steeped in the history of adventurers and pirates who used it as a means of rounding the Horn. Today, the town is used as a base for Antarctic expeditions and as an adventure playground for those looking for an active holiday in Argentina.

Las Pampas

Las Pampas

The lush and fertile flatlands that surround Buenos Aires are known as “the Pampas” and are have played an important role in why Argentina has become the prosperous and diverse country and culture that it is today. Part of the reason for this is the vast swathes of long, succulent grasses and open skies that make the perfect grazing territory for cattle and other livestock. The other part is for the types of people that this type of work attracts.
