Set up in the mountains that overlook the town, Las Hayas Resort Hotel has long been the place to stay in the Tierra del Fuego. Today, we are not so sure if it should still hold this mantle. The views from the hotel are undeniably stunning, looking out to the Beagle Channel and the town, but it is in need of some refurbishment and, with competition such as Los Cauquenes, it would be better sooner rather than later.

Set approximately 20 minutes up into the hills that overlook the town, on the way out to the Martial Glacier, Las Hayas is somewhat of a tradition in Ushuaia, and has always been the best accommodation available.

Today, it is still possible to see why the hotel has earned its reputation with the luxurious fabrics and outstanding views out over the town to the Beagle and the Darwin range in the distance. One of our favourite things about the hotel is the feeling of seclusion that you get due to its ownership of the surrounding beech forests. On top of this, the channel facing rooms are also well worth the money as you are probably buying the best views in the area.

Unfortunately, as we mention above, with the arrival of certain hotels, such as Los Cauquenes, in the area, Las Hayas needs to up its game in order to truly call itself the best again.
