Review

Formally the Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa, the property was acquired in 2020 by the opulent Nayara Resorts collection, who hitherto specialised and excelled in Costa Rica’s high-end hotel industry. The result of this partnership is a superb resort offering a luxurious, all-inclusive stay on Easter Island, that gives the established Explora Rapa Nui a run for their money!

Location

The property is located, as the name suggests, in Hanga Roa – the island’s main (only) town and is less than a mile from the airport. Situated off the coastal road, the hotel is ocean-facing and overlooks the rocky west coast of the island. The location is ideal for those who like to potter into town and explore the local shops & market, being just a few blocks from the action. Although ‘action’ is a relative term, on an island 1,000 miles from an inhabited neighbour!

Layout

Nayara Hangaroa is entirely a single-floor property, which works on two levels. Firstly, it is very much in keeping with the area and the ‘shape of the land’. Secondly, despite being a relatively large development, it helps maintain their eco-village feel and character, rather than a built-up resort. The use of tree trucks and curved walls and rooms is very much in keeping with the organic theme here. Although the resort has quite a large footprint, it remains a stress-free exercise to get around your own eco-village.

Rooms

explora There are 75 rooms in total, consisting of 69 Kainga rooms and 6 Ma’unga Suites, all of which have ocean-views and a terrace. All rooms also feature a hand-made, clay bathtub plus a circular shower. With high ceilings and a distinct lack of edges & corners, the rooms really are very spacious and relaxing. The suites include an additional living space.

Features

Nayara Hangaroa boasts the extensive Manavai Spa, featuring massage & treatment rooms, hot-tubs, an outdoor hydrotherapy pool and a salt sauna. The main swimming pool claims to be the largest on the island! The property also has two restaurants – both offering indoor and al fresco dining - and a poolside bar.

There is a wide range of activities on offer, with inclusions dependent on board basis (everything from B&B through to all-inclusive with private guides is available). Excursions around the island can be done by foot, bike, van, boat and even 4x4 quad bikes.

Impressive number of facilities and excursions

With 75 rooms, it lacks the intimacy of smaller properties
